Didcot Casuals Girls under 10s did themselves proud with two victories at the Umbro International Cup in Manchester over the weekend.

Casuals, who took a party of 36, finished third.

Didcot played four 20-minute matches with mixed results.

They started by going down 4-0 to a strong Manchester City outfit, before they enjoyed a hard-earned 2-1 victory over Delamere Rangers.

Their most impressive display came in their 8-0 victory against Curzon Ashton Girls.

This set up a nail-biting finish, when a win in their last game against eventual champions California Girls would have seen a possible three-way tie at the top of their mini-league.

However, it wasn’t to be.

Didcot conceded late in the first half from a deflected corner and were then caught on the break as California made it 2-0 to seal victory.

Didcot coach Andy Merrett said: “A huge thanks must go to all the parents and families for making the trip possible, especially Jeff Lynn for transporting the equipment and Pryors Cars, of Didcot, who stepped in with the offer of a vehicle.”
