Democrats got off to a winning start in Group A after a 4-2 home success at Bletchingdon Club, writes PETE EWINS.

John Patey put the hosts into an early lead, but they soon found themselves behind after wins by Pete Soanes (7,110) and Colin Winstone (5,760).

Patey made it 2-2 with a fine score of 7,590, before Terry Green (5,350) and Billy Hill (8,680) made it 4-2.

Didcot Con Club registered their first win after a 5-1 home success against Masons.

In Group B, leaders Marlborough Club took all six points against Headington Con Club.

Chris Iagoe (3,290 & 2,190), Arthur Mcintyre (4,390 & 5,350) and Chris Plant (2,320 & 6,180) won all their games.

Nelson A played host to their B side and came out on top 4-2.

Ian Gordon (5,030 & 1920) and Lewis Stratford (7,100 & 16,420) were in fine form, winning twice for the A side, with Dave Bartlett (7900 & 6570) claiming both B team successes.
