Imran Faruq shot a superb one-under-par 71 to win the Waterstock Men’s Open on his home course.

Faruq finished two strokes clear of Jake Canning (Stoke Park) in an event which attracted players from all over the Berks, Bucks & Oxon region.

The nett prize was won by Phil Gascoyne on countback from fellow Waterstock member Dave Needs after both carded 68s.

Faruq then went close to a double as he and partner Abdullah Shehab finished second in the afternoon fourball competition.

They were edged out on countback by winners Paul Tipping and Pat Knightley on 44 points.

Mark Ladd won the over 70s prize at Waterstock’s Seniors’ Open, while Magnolia Park duo Pam Twynam and Adele Berthet were victorious in the club’s Ladies’ Pairs Open.

Oli Tite clinched the Witney Lakes club championship for a third year running, finishing on one-under-par.

The scratch golfer carded 70 and 71 for a 141 total and a four-shot victory.

Former Oxford United and current Crawley Town footballer Jamie Cook, a two-handicapper, matched Tite’s first-round effort, but slipped to third after shooting 77.

This allowed Richard Connor, who plays off four, to finish as runner-up thanks to a fantastic three-under-par final round of 68 giving him a 145 total.

A ten-under-par 61 clinched the nett prize for David Williams, while Jon Steedman won the Plate.
