Banbury Central A completed the double over their nearest rivals at the top of the Oxford & District Bowls League sponsored by Yarnton Nurseries.

Led by captain Mark Sykes, the reigning champions beat Headington A by nine shots to take a three-point lead in the title race.

Ian Snowdon’s four gained a point for Headington.

Trevor Prew made the difference again as West Witney continued their excellent form.

He picked up the jack with his last bowl to take all six points at home to Bicester.

Despite a big win for skip Ron Hammond, City & County B could only share the points with Blackbird Leys in Division 2.

South Oxford extended their lead at the top of the table with a home win against Thame.

Good wins for Shane Cooper, Melvin Brain and Tim Cox saw Cotswold put the pressure on promotion rivals Banbury Chestnuts.

There is no change at the top of Division 3 as both Witney Mills and Kidlington picked up 5-1 wins.

Sixteen-year-old Liam Witcombe had a storming game for Mills against his Under 25 manager Steve Gilkes at Watlington, his bowls largely making the difference in a tight game.

Headington B scored a second successive century as they despatched Florence Park by 77 shots in Division 4.

Skips Russell Edwards, Peter Sargeant and Terry Murphy all scored 30 or more.

They retain top spot, but Witney Town kept up the pressure with a big away win at OUP.
