Touch rugby returns to Oxford for a third season this summer, with action beginning on May 11.

With the Oxford Mail now sponsoring the In 2 Touch Oxford Summer League, organisers believe it has a bright future.

The mixed league saw 14 teams compete in 2008 at its Oxford RFC base in North Hinksey.

Venue manager Paul Farrington said: “We are very pleased to announce that the Oxford Mail will be supporting us this season.

“This reflects their ongoing support of inclusive, community based sports. We hope that this partnership will enable us to raise the profile of the game further.”

The Oxford league now has three internationals who featured in last year’s European Championships – Jolene Hughes (England Mixed Over 30s), plus Joe Hartley and Barney Hoskins (Switzerland Open Team).

“We are very proud of our international players, they have shown that there is a chance to progress in the sport to the highest level,” said Farrington.

“Jolene has made the final trials for the England squads to play in this summer’s Home Nations event in Scotland.”

Taster sessions take place on Mondays at Oxford RFC from 7pm onwards.
