Oxbridge ended their Japanese tour with a narrow defeat after winning their opening fixture.

The combined Oxford and Cambridge University side lost 25-19 to All Keio thanks to a late converted try.

All Oxbridge’s points came from Dark Blue players with full back Chris Mahony scoring a brace of tries, wing Sean Morris adding another and scrum half Brendan McKerchar kicking two conversions.

The first match saw the visitors defeat All Ganto Gakuin 17-10, with Oxford men again on target.

Wing Tim Catling, Mahony and No 8 Peter Wright scored Oxbridge’s tries, with centre Tom Gregory converting one.

  • OXFORD University will play Yorkshire at Pontefract on Sunday in the National Under 20 Championship quarter-finals (2.15).

The Dark Blues were the only unbeaten side in the two Midlands groups following victories over Notts, Lincs & Derbyshire and North Midlands and a draw at Warwickshire.

Oxfordshire finished bottom of their group following three defeats in three matches.

  • BICESTER Under 15s preserved their Oxfordshire League Division 1 status with a 21-12 play-off victory over Witney.

Prop Josh Walker drove over for Bicester’s first try and hooker Tyrone Brown added No 2, scrum half Elliot Nicklin converting both.

Witney hit back with Jack Smith’s try, converted by Nathan Blakely.

Centre Jordan Brodley bagged Bicester’s third try, with Nicklin converting, but Ronan Wilson’s solo effort for Witney kept it close.

  • BANBURY Under 11s celebrated a double home success in their mini tournament at Bodicote Park.

The A and B teams both won their events without losing a match.
