St Andrew’s, Headington, saw their Wembley dreams shattered in the south west final of the ESFA Schools’ Cup at Millfield Prep, Street in Somerset.

Two wins and two defeats in their group games meant the Oxfordshire champions failed to qualify for the decider.

St Andrew’s came from behind to beat Cornwall 2-1 in their opening game with David Vickers scoring twice.

The Headington lads were then pipped 1-0 by Dorset, before going down to eventual winners Gloucestershire 2-0, despite the efforts of Sam Weitzel, Oscar Tait and Harry Balkwill.

St Andrew’s signed off with a 1-0 victory over Wiltshire, with Vickers tucking away the rebound after Sami Kwahja's shot was beaten away.

Gloucestershire beat Devon 1-0 in the final, and now go on to represent the south west in the national final at Wembley on Saturday, June 13 when England Under 18s face France.

St Andrew’s will be hoping for better luck when they face Headington rivals Windmill in the Debt Dr Oxford United Under 11 five-a-side final at the Kassam Stadium on Saturday before United’s game against Histon.
