Oxford United boss Chris Wilder says his team now have to make their home games count – and urged everyone to make it “horrible for Histon” this Saturday.

The balance of United’s home and away games has now been restored following their three on the road last week.

They have six matches left – three at the Kassam Stadium and three away.

And after collecting seven points out of nine on their travels, Wilder wants the U’s to take maximum points from the visits of Histon and Wrexham before Easter to keep alive their hopes of reaching the Blue Square Premier play-offs.

He said: “We’ve got to make sure we take advantage of the home games now. We really need to seal wins in those games and we’ll see where we are in a couple of weeks time.

“We’ve got a free week this week, so we’ll make sure we get plenty of rest.

“We’ve set it up, which we wouldn’t have thought possible three months ago.

“Histon at home is a top-of-the-table game for a team to be going into the play-offs.

“I’m certain the backing we’ll get again on Saturday will again be fantastic.

“Let’s make it horrible for the opposition, let’s give our players the biggest support that we can get and let’s get another three points to keep this thing going.”

Play-off rivals Kidderminster have three games in hand, but those three are all away, although the first of those – at Woking on Wednesday night – comes just 48 hours after Woking lost 1-0 at home to Cambridge United on Monday night.

Jai Reason grabbed Cambridge’s winner eight minutes from time in a game delayed by a power failure to deal another blow to Oxford’s hopes of reaching the play-offs. Stevenage on Tuesday night travel to York, where Oxford United will be in seven days’ time, while Histon face Mansfield, and Kettering visit leaders Burton.

Damian Batt is suspended for United’s game against Histon following his red card at Stevenage, but he misses just the one match.
