Chris Wilder says his Oxford United team must play with their heads as well as their hearts when they visit Stevenage in today’s ‘match of the day,’ Both the play-off chasers are in good form, with United beaten only once in their last 13 games.

FA Trophy finalists Stevenage are on an unbeaten league and cup run of 22 matches, which sets up what should be a thrilling encounter.

“I think it will be one of the top games in this league,” said Wilder.

“Burton have done enough (to go up), so the chase is on for the play-offs. I don’t think the games come bigger and better than this.

“We have to make sure we play with our heads. They are a side that were destined to go up automatically.

“The win at Rushden was a great result for us and we move on from there.

“We have to be calm and focused, which is part of my job.

“But it doesn’t need me, Mickey Lewis, or Alan Hodgkinson to get the players motivated for this one.

“We have to work extremely hard and play to our potential. If we do that we can win the game, but if we don’t we won’t.”

Stevenage’s 26-goal hot-shot Steve Morison is in the middle of a barren run, but Wilder is not reading too much into it.

He said: “We have made no special plans for him or for anybody.

“We will take into account what they do, but they have got good players all over the pitch.

“He (Morison) has been one of their top players for a while and I don’t think this run he is on will make any difference.

“If James Constable went ten games without scoring, it would not bother me, because I know the goals will come.”

Kevin Sandwith returns after completing his ban for being sent off against Kettering, though he may be on the bench, as Chris Carruthers did so well against Rushden in his place.

Constable has recovered from the dead leg he suffered at Rushden.

Stevenage could parade former Mansfield winger Junior Mendes whom they have signed on loan from Aldershot.

Right back Ronnie Henry returns from suspension and he could come in former United defender Jon Ashton, whom he replaced in their goalless draw with Histon on Tuesday.

They will be without Andy Drury (hamstring tear).
