Fieldside won the Gent-works Oxford & District League’s Simonds Cup for the third consecutive year with ing a 4-0 win over Riley A, writes DAVID WHITE.

In a repeat of last year’s final, Karl Walker beat James Stone in the opening frame and this was followed by wins for Paul Robinson against Andy MacBryan, and Mick Bennett against Chris Stone.

Walker wrapped up the match with his second win against James Stone.

In contrast, the final of the Sherlock Cup between New Club B and Cowley Workers A was a thrilling nailbiter, decided by the final black of the last frame.

First blood went to the Workers thanks to Lee McAllister, who beat Alan King 70-41.

Luke Purcell levelled with a 61-49 victory against Mal McAllister, which reduced New Club’s arrears to 17.

Paul Moss then beat Simon Walters 61-40 to put New Club in front for the first time.

Lee McAllister completed the double over King to swing the aggregate back in Cowley Workers favour by just sixpoints.

New Club were back in front when Purcell again beat Mal McAllister 3-2 to put New Club seven points in front.

This set up an intriguing decider between Moss and Walters, who established a healthy lead before Moss laid a difficult snooker.

After several ‘miss’ calls, Walters lost nearly 20 points.

Both players had chances on the final black before Moss left it over a pocket and Walters accepted the pot to make it 3-3 on frames and win the match for Workers by ten points on aggregate.

In the league, Fieldside disposed of Witney C 6-0 in their Premier Division clash.

Paul Robinson beat Steve Mill in the opening frames before Walker trounced Phil Smith, winning the first of their frames in two scoring visits, with breaks of 42 and 27.

In the next frame, he had runs of 31 and 44.

Bennett completed the rout against Julian Marks, rounding off the match with a 35.

Matthew Callen made a 40 break during Riley B’s 4-2 victory against Witney A. Colin Cutler and Colin Adams won Witney’s frames.

Green Road Club beat Riley D 4-2 in Division 1, with Green Road’s Andy Benwell making a break of 52 in the fourth frame.

Thame B’s miserable season continued with a 5-1 defeat at home to New Club B in Division Two.

Alan King defeated Tom Fletcher and Dave White was beaten by Luke Purcell before Nigel Bossom took Thame’s only point against Paul Moss.

In Division 3, bottom of the table Eynsham D got a draw against leaders Witney B.

Jason Poole increased the highest break in Division four to 52 during Witney D’s draw with Cowley Con B.
