OXFORD United are keeping their fingers crossed for a potential windfall after Hull City made a bid for Sunderland midfielder Dean Whitehead.

The U’s were given a 25 per cent sell-on clause by a tribunal when Whitehead moved to the Stadium of Light from Oxford in 2004.

And with Hull’s bid understood to be around the £3-4m mark, United could be set to receive between £750,000 and £1m.

Sunderland manager Ricky Sbragia has said that Whitehead is not for sale – but United will be praying Hull maintain their interest and even up their bid.

Fulham are also rumoured to be interested in Whitehead.
