City of Oxford’s swimmers found the going tough at the Abingdon Vale Winter Meeting – picking up ten speeding tickets!

Finn Monaghan led the way with three swims too quick, with India Mattocks (2), Sarah Gould (2), Isobel Brewster, Lucy Millington and Alina Khan all swam too fast.

Timing it just right, however, was Katie King-Smith in the 9/10 years 50m freestyle, Emma Sherwood in the 11/12 years 100m breaststroke and Alex Vessey in the 13/14 years 100m butterfly.

Monaghan and Mattocks did have success, taking silver in ther 9/10 years 50m butterfly and 100m IM respectively.

Bronze medals were collected by Ryan Conway (13/14yrs 100m backstroke & 100m) breaststroke, Evie Murrel (13/14yrs 200m IM), Beth Horn (11/12yrs 100m butterfly), Elie Millington (9/10yrs 50m freestyle) and Emily Wood (9/10yrs 50m breastroke).

l OLIVER Ripley, from Didcot Barramundi, scooped five gold medals in the Blue-fins Gala at Basingstoke.

The ten-year-old won the 200m butterfly, the 200m breaststroke, the 200m backstroke, the 200m indivdual medley and the 50m butterfly.

There was also a large contingent of Barramundi swimmers at Abingdon's meeting.

There were golds for Matthew Taylor, nine, in the 50m freestyle, Luc Bouet, nine, in the 50m breaststroke and Mollie Boyce, ten, in the 50m backstroke.
