WITNEY produced the great escape in the Premier Division of the Gentworks Oxford & District League, writes DAVID WHITE.

Going into their match with Riley A bottom of the table, Witney looked doomed when breaks of 40, 32 and 25 helped James Stone defeat Colin Cutler to put Riley 2-0 up.

But Witney hit back in style, with Colin Adams and Paul Chester winning both their games to record a stunning 4-2 victory.

With Woodstock drawing, the result meant that Witney avoided relegation at the expense of Woodstock and New Club.

In Division 1, the top three teams all won 5-1 which means that Riley C take the title and Witney C the runners up slot.

Eynsham A and House Club B are relegated to Division 2.

Oracle B had already won Division 2, but Riley D clinched the runners-up spot with a 5-1 win over Eynsham D, who are relegated. Cowley Con A are also down.

Ashton romped away with the Division 3 crown, New Club B finished second with Witney D and Cowley Con C relegated.

Riley E and East Oxford Con A are on the up from Division 4, Riley F and Westcott dropping into the bottom division.

Riley G and Yarnton RBL A will replace them after coming first and second in Division 5, where Littlemore RBL B were confirmed as the league’s basement boys – failing to win a game all season.
