Oxford Hawks finished the first half of the season in style with a 5-2 home win over local rivals Reading 1A in South Clubs' League Division 1.

Katy Merrick fired Hawks into a second-minute lead with a well-timed tip-in from close range.

Amy Bryant doubled their advantage in the 33rd minute with a converted short corner.

Fiona Walton made it 3-0 to Hawks after the break with a reverse stick flick past the Reading keeper after Ali Omell’s strike was saved.

Omell then made it on to the scoresheet in the 49th minute, before Reading pulled one back.

Laura Wingfield Digby restored Hawks’ four-goal cushion, and Reading’s second was scant consolation.

City of Oxford went top of Division 3A with a 3-2 win over Wycombe at Oxford Brookes.

Tam Curnow put City ahead from open play.

Wycombe equalised, but a sweeping move led to Ann-Marie Davenport making it 2-1.

Curnow grabbed a third and although Wycombe pulled one back, City hung on to win.

Banbury were without a game after Newbury & Thatcham pulled out of the league.

Oxford Hawks 2nd went down 1-0 at Bracknell.
