A brace of tries from centre Danny Wells helped Henley Hawks to a 24-18 home win over Lydney.
Henley were frustrated not to bag a bonus point, but kicked possession away in the final quarter.
Their opening try came on 13 minutes after Wells charged down a clearance from Lydney’s fly half Mark Davies.
Wells gathered the ball and raced in for Tommy Turner to convert.
Lydney pressure led to Davies slotting two penaltes, but Hawks awoke to produce one of their best tries for decades.
Lock Dave Clements’s initial break led to the ball going through five pairs of hands and flanker Stean Williams finishing for Turner to convert.
Henley went close to scoring three more times with Pete Davies and Neil Baggett prominent, but two more Lydney penalties made it 14-12 at the break.
Mark Davies kicked the first and Tony Wicks the second after Henley’s Pete Davies was sin-binned for tackling Mark Davies in an off-side position!
Lydney led for the first time with Mark Davies’s fourth penalty, but a turnover gave Wells the chance to run through for his second try, Turner converting.
Turner added a 68th-minute penalty to give Henley breathing space.
Lydney came close to a try in stoppage time, but won a penalty, which Davies slotted.
