Gosford All Blacks supporter Mike Rhymes has urged players to get behind the club and support coach Alec Smith.

Rhymes, who pens Gosford’s match reports, was left frustrated after seeing a very under-strength side lose 62-0 at Amersham & Chiltern on Saturday.

He said: “Players have now got to recognise whether they are committed to the club or are bit-part players, who choose to watch England international matches instead.

“Having to cancel yet an other second XV game is almost unheard of in the record of the club.

“But surely with the effort your coach Alec Smith is putting in and with the great facilities, it must be time for a rethink to give him the support he richly deserves.

“It is realised that work commitments can’t be helped, but come on we’re a rugby club not a social /international-watching club.

“For one travelling over 80 miles to write the above drivel (match report) makes me question who is committed in promoting the Gosford club.”

BANBURY Under 11s won the Cheltenham Festival on superior try count for the second year running after drawing 0-0 with Stroud in the final.

They went through the tournament without conceding a try.

In the group stage, they beat Cheltenham 28-0, Hucclecote 31-0 and Minchinhampton 26-0.

The semi-finals saw Banbury defeat Chippenham 26-0 with tries from Alexander Bruce, Shane Allen, Caleb Shepherd and Oliver Roberts.
