Captain Gary Johnson racked up a score of 20,760 to help boost Horse & Harrow’s title charge in the Premier Section of the Johnsons Buildbase Oxford League.

Johnson’s terrific effort set Horse & Harrow on the way to a 3-2 home win over Corner House.

They then won 4-1 at Berinsfield in a rearranged game, and are now five points clear at the top, having played a game more than Nelson. After Johnson’s opening blitz against Corner House, Mike Jones (5,450) levelled by beating Maxi McDonnell.

Paul Lawson reeled off a break of 8,510 to ease past Ian Moss (4,200) and restore Horse & Harrow’s lead.

Bob Allsworth (6,140) levelled, before Pete Lee (8,280) beat Alan Lacey to give Horse & Harrow victory.

Dolphin won 3-2 at Masons B.

The home side led 2-1 with wins by Phil Light (3,480) and Chris Webb (3,960) sandwiched around a fine effort by Paul Caistor (12,660, break 7,000).

But Simon Ellam (6,850) and young Chris Storch, who recorded his best highest away score of 7,210, clinched victory for Dolphin.

In Section 1, Didcot Conservative Club won 4-1 at Gladiators.

The hosts took the opening game through Keith Gardner (4,810), but Didcot won the next four with Dave Tooke starring with 11,430, including a break of 9,750.

Berinsfield went down 3-2 at home to Masons A.

Geoff Mace (3,710) won first with Dave Rose and Alan Lowe (7,840) replying.

Sandra Tebby squared the match by beating Martyn Wood, but then Mick Murphy defeated Craig Mace 3,510-2,500.
