Sandhurst Tn 1 (Vickery 90)

Witney Utd 2 (Thompson 56, Wickens 84)

Witney booked their place in today’s third round draw for the first time as they saw off Combined Counties League outfit Sandhurst on Saturday.

The home side had no anwer to Witney’s constant attacking, and the only surprise was that the score remained goalless at half-time, although Andrew Younie, Ben Thompson and Ryan Curtin had all struck the woodwork.

The second half continued in much the same vain, and when Thompson struck the bar again, it looked as though it was to be one of those frustrating days for Witney.

But 11 minutes into the second half, Witney finally went in front as an inch-perfect cross by Curtin was swept home decisively by Thompson, giving Sandhurst keeper Sam Collier no chance.

The lead was doubled six minutes from time as Younie and Curtin combined at a corner, and Curtin’s cross was punched by Collier into the path of Gary Wickens, who drilled the ball home.

Deep into stoppage time, Sandhurst grabbed a consolation with virtually their only shot on target, when substitute Liam Vickery executed a clever lob which beat Witney keeper Jon Beames.

Hook Norton 1 (Standen 120)

VTFC 1 (aet) (Bright 95)

Carl Standen scored with virtually the last kick of the game as Hook Norton deservedly lived to fight another day by holding Wessex League Premier Division side VTFC to a 1-1 draw.

The visitors are unbeaten in their league this season, and looked an accomplished outfit, but Hooky more than held their own in a goalless first half as Ricky Johnson, Alex Feaver and Ben Milner all went close.

Goalless after 90 minutes, the visitors went in front five minutes into extra time when Lee Bright netted at the far post from a corner.

It was end-to-end after this, and Hooky were rewarded for their excellent team performance when Standen curled the ball into the net at the near post from a corner in the dying seconds to set up a replay tomorrow night.

Chalfont St Peter 2 (Clarke 43, Lewis 70)

Clanfield 0

Clanfield bowed out of the competition against their South Midlands League opponents.

Clanfield were not helped by missing Kevin Brooks and Steve Knight due to injury, and Chalfont were quickly out of the blocks.

Goalkeeper Chris Brain made two superb first-half saves, the first from Danny Hughes’s header, which Brain tipped around a post, and the second a point-blank block from Terrell Lewis’s effort.

But Chalfont weren’t to be denied, and they won ahead two minutes before the break as Hemmell Clarke headed home Danny Hughes’s cross-cum-shot.

Dan Bishop went close for Clanfield in the second half, while Sean McKeon saw his shot well held by Mark Oliver.

But Chalfont wrapped up victory with 20 minutes left when Lewis’s fierce shot from 15 yards flew in.
