GREG Leigh played the full 90 minutes as Jamaica suffered Copa America heartbreak.

The Reggae Boyz lost 3-1 to Ecuador, while Venezuela’s 1-0 victory over Mexico sealed Jamaica’s fate.

Ecuador took the lead after 13 minutes, when a cross from the left was deflected off Coventry City midfielder Kasey Palmer and past his own goalkeeper Jahmali Waite.

The lead was doubled in first half stoppage time after Leigh, playing as a left wing back, was deemed to have handled the ball in the penalty box.

Kendry Paez, 17, stepped up and converted from the spot to become Ecuador’s youngest ever goalscorer.

Jamaica halved the deficit nine minutes into the second period, when they bagged their first ever Copa America goal.

West Ham United forward Michail Antonio fired home following a corner, in the process netting Jamaica’s first Copa America goal in what is the third time they have taken part in the tournament.

Jamaica then thought they had won a penalty themselves for a handball, but the referee didn’t award it, despite going to the monitor after a VAR intervention.

Alan Minda wrapped up the three points for Ecuador in the 91st minute, rounding off a late counter-attack.

Jamaica, who lost 1-0 to Mexico in their opening game of the tournament, round off their Copa America campaign against Venezuela at 1am BST on Monday.
