OXFORD City have appointed Andy Sinnott as chairman, replacing the long-serving Brian Cox, who passed away aged 83 last month.

Cox took over as Hoops chairman in 2003, a role he held for more than 20 years.

Sinnott meanwhile, a former Hoops manager, has coached the Oxfordshire County Under-16s for more than 20 years.

He told the Hoops website: “Brian gave so much to this football club and I am honoured to be asked to step up and try to continue the tremendous work that he did.

“The football club is in very safe hands with Justin Merritt as owner and we are ambitious to keep the same core values that he and Brian have always believed in: a successful, welcoming football club that sits right at the heart of the city of Oxford.

“To be asked to become chairman is a very proud moment for me personally, and I am determined to repay the faith that the board have shown in me by doing all I can to help the club continue on their upwards journey.”

Oxford Mail:

Hoops owner Justin Merritt added: “Andy’s integrity, work ethic and knowledge of the game made him the outstanding candidate to succeed Brian and we are thrilled that he has agreed to become chairman.

“He has the respect not just of everyone here at Oxford City but also the whole of Oxfordshire football.

“Andy knows what we are looking to build in terms of the men’s teams, the women’s teams, but also as a football club and it is wonderful for us to be able to draw on his experience to help make all of those plans become reality.”
