GREG Leigh says that taking penalties comes naturally to Cameron Brannagan in the same way that walking and breathing do.

Oxford United’s spot kick maestro coolly converted from 12 yards to nudge the U’s back in front on aggregate in their Sky Bet League One play-off semi-final against Peterborough United.

Brannagan’s latest penalty took his tally to 10 successful spot kicks this season, with not a single one to fail.

Posh defender Josh Knight had levelled the semi-final tie on aggregate just minutes earlier, with the pressure on Brannagan to restore the U’s advantage from the spot, after Harrison Burrows was penalised for a handball in the area.

Leigh said: “Penalties are just something that come naturally to him. It’s like walking or breathing.

“When we got the penalty, there were a lot of hearts in mouths, and I think the calmest person in the stadium was him.

“He knew what he had to do, and he dispatched it. That’s a leader you need out there.

“He can bring that fire in the belly, but he can also bring that calm head. They say fire in the belly and ice in the head, and Cam is the epitome of that.”
