OXFORD United kept hold of their spot inside Sky Bet League One’s top six despite a stoppage time equaliser for Stevenage.

Bottom side Carlisle United secured a two-goal lead thanks to a brace from Daniel Butterworth, however former U’s attacker Alex MacDonald netted from the penalty spot with eight minutes to go, to bring Stevenage to within a goal of the hosts.

Terence Vancooten then equalised in the 96th minute, as seventh-placed Stevenage moved to within a point of United. Both teams, plus fellow play-off chasers Lincoln City, Blackpool and Leyton Orient, have now played 39 games.

Elsewhere in the third tier, Northampton Town caused a shock after a 1-0 win at home to second-placed Derby County.

Sam Hoskins scored his 15th league goal of the season midway through the first half, before Rams defender Sonny Bradley was show a straight red card deep into second half stoppage time.

Port Vale nudged to within three points of safety thanks to a 1-0 win at Burton Albion. Ryan Loft netted the only goal of the game with seven minutes to go.
