TYLER Burey remains down the pecking order in Oxford United’s wide options after being left out of the fourth consecutive matchday squad.

The 23-year-old winger has not played for the U’s since being taken off at half-time in the draw at Blackpool.

Burey was then an unused substitute for the 4-2 victory over Wigan Athletic, prior to being left out of the matchday squads against Wycombe Wanderers, Northampton Town, Leyton Orient and Portsmouth.

United head coach Des Buckingham said after the defeat at Pompey: “We’ve spoken about Owen Dale, and the performances of Owen and Murph [Josh Murphy] now firing. I thought Owen Dale was fantastic today and we’ve seen a 90-minute performance from him.”

With no Tyler Goodrham due to a calf injury, and Dale coming into the side to replace him, it seemed an opportunity for Burey to work his way back into the matchday squad.

However, the Odense loanee was again overlooked, despite a lack of speed on the U’s bench.

Buckingham said: “There’s more than one way to do things. It’s one thing having pace and it’s another making sure you can play the way we want as well.

“I get the excitement around quick players, and Tyler’s a very good player, and we’ve seen that in the games that he’s had.

“At the moment, we feel that Owen, and Tyler Goodrham before he picked up his injury, just offered us a little bit more with Murph in that space.

“You can only have seven on the bench. We’ve gone from having hardly anyone available to having everybody available, so you have to make what you think is the best decision for the team.

“I think the players that stepped out on that field have shown why they deserved to be out on the field.”
