DES Buckingham said he understands supporter frustration at not seeing Tyler Burey in the matchday squad.

After being omitted for yesterday’s defeat at home to Leyton Orient, Burey has now been left out of the last three Oxford United matchday squads.

The 23-year-old winger joined United on loan from Danish side Odense last month, with appearances from the bench against Barnsley and Bristol Rovers leading to a start at home to Portsmouth.

An eye-catching 70 minutes in that game led to further starts in the draws at home to Reading and away against Blackpool.

Burey was taken off at half-time for Josh Murphy in the Seasiders clash, and has not played for the U’s since.

The former Millwall attacker was an unused substitute for the 4-2 victory over Wigan Athletic, prior to being left out of the matchday squads against Wycombe Wanderers, Northampton Town and Orient.

Buckingham said: “We’ve got Josh Murphy, who’s performing extremely well and scoring, and then on the other side, you’ve got Tyler Goodrham, who’s been playing extremely well and has got the most goals he’s scored in his senior career.

“Owen Dale came on in the last game here and did very well with a good assist for Will Goodwin, so we’re judging on performance.

“It’s not so much what Tyler isn’t doing, but what the others in front of him at the minute are doing.

“I understand the frustration of not seeing him, but you’re only allowed seven players on the bench, and we need to make sure we’re covered in all areas should we make a change.”
