WILL Goodwin is set to be available for Oxford United’s trip to Wycombe Wanderers this weekend.

The 21-year-old striker made his U’s debut at Blackpool, playing the final half an hour after replacing Tyler Goodrham.

However, the decision was made to protect the centre forward following his recovery from a quad injury, and he was therefore left out of the matchday squad as United beat Wigan Athletic in midweek.

Goodwin trained as normal prior to the win against the Latics, and is in contention for the U’s when they make the short trip to the Chairboys.

United head coach Des Buckingham said yesterday afternoon: “Goodwin is available. He trained on Tuesday and has just come through a training session with us there, so he’s in full contention.”

When asked whether Goodwin will start or be on the bench, Buckingham kept his cards close to his chest, and responded: “We’ll see, we’ll see.”

Buckingham explained after the Latics win that Goodwin was omitted from the matchday squad to prevent risk of an injury setback.

He said: “With it being Saturday-Tuesday-Saturday, the medical team felt it was better to get him right. We could’ve played him, but then you probably lose him for Saturday because it’s too quick, too soon, and you put him at further risk.”

Goodwin joined the U’s last month, signing from Cheltenham Town, where he scored six goals in 16 Sky Bet League One games this season.
