BANBURY United have parted ways with manager Mark Jones following a seven-game winless run in Vanarama National League North.

The Puritans have picked up just two points from the last 21 available to them, and last tasted victory on December 12, when they won 2-1 at King’s Lynn Town.

Banbury were beaten 2-1 at home to Gloucester City on Tuesday night, a result which left them 20th in National League North, two points above the relegation zone.

The Puritans said in a statement this afternoon: “The club can confirm that Mark Jones has left his post as manager of Banbury United’s men’s first team.

“Mark’s commitment and dedication to Banbury United have never been in question and we would like to sincerely thank him for his contribution to the club.

“He took on and delivered the daunting task of recruiting a squad almost from scratch over last summer.

“However, recent results and the current league position meant this difficult decision had to be taken. We wish Mark well for his future in the game.”

The club said further details will be shared in due course.

Former Oxford City boss Jones was appointed on a one-year contract June, replacing Andy Whing, who had resigned the previous month.

Whing helped Banbury win the Southern League Premier Central title by 23 points, before finishing 17th in National League North last season.
