Banbury United are being investigated by the FA after supporters were found to have broken ground regulations following an incident at the club's Vanarama National League North match away at Brackley Town this month.

The incident, which transpired during the visitor's 3-1 defeat on New Year's Day at St James Park, resulted in a group of Banbury spectators illegally entering a zone at Brackley Town’s football ground allocated for the home club's fans.

The club could now face fines or sanctions from the FA as a result.

Northamptonshire Police and Thames Valley Police are conducting separate criminal investigations in parallel to this action.

Banbury has since undertaken an investigation with multiple individuals identified via high-resolution images obtained from official photographers.

In response, the club has begun circulating letters this week, communicating stadium bans and acceptable behaviour contracts to the individuals.

The letters will either be sent by post or personally presented by the club’s security team upon their next arrival at the stadium.

The club said in a statement on Friday: "We want safe and enjoyable match days for our community-owed Club.

"Many Banbury United supporters have expressed their disappointment at the behaviour witnessed on New Year’s Day."

Parallel to this, Brackley has also started implementing its own measures towards the fans who were involved.

The club maintained that it is not its duty to determine who was to blame, but to "promote the safety and security of spectators" and protect the club's reputation.
