TYLER Burey is grateful for the chance to get regular game time at Oxford United after a move to the club fell through in the summer.

The U’s looked poised to sign the 23-year-old winger on a permanent basis from Millwall, back in June, however he ended up moving to Danish side Odense for an undisclosed fee two months later.

He has now joined United on a loan deal until the end of the season, after making just six appearances, five as a substitute, in the Danish Superliga.

Asked about the proposed transfer during the summer, Burey responded: “The move was meant to happen, but then communications were low, and stuff just happens in football.

“It is what it is, but the good thing is I’m here now.”

He added: “I’m just very happy to get it over the line, and I’m ready to kick on and embrace what’s going on here.

“It’s a chance to shine and a platform. I’ve got to show what I’m about now, so the pressure’s on me, but I feel like I can take it.

“It’s just about training, embracing the lads, getting to know everyone more and more, and kicking on for the season.”

Burey’s time in Denmark hasn’t gone to plan as of yet, with limited game time, but the forward is looking ahead to his new challenge with the U’s.

He said: “You’re always frustrated, but God does everything for a reason. Now there’s a new opportunity and my head is on this new opportunity.

“I’m not thinking too far ahead, I’ve come to Oxford and I need to embrace that I’m an Oxford player. My main focus is the club now.

“Everyone’s made me feel so welcome and I feel like I’m settling in quite quick.”

On his main strengths, Burey said: “One versus one is what I thrive off, that’s what I’ve done since I was a kid, and probably my main thing.

“I play mainly off the left and used to play on the right when I was a kid. It’s been a transition over the past six years to play on the left.”

The attacker signed for Millwall in June 2019, arriving as an 18-year-old from AFC Wimbledon, where he made five appearances.

His time at The Den included a loan spell with Hartlepool United, where he scored three goals in seven games at Sky Bet League Two level.

Burey left the Lions in August, after racking up 58 appearances, 43 as a substitute, scoring three goals for the club.

He made 26 appearances for Millwall last season, as the Lions finished eighth in Championship, missing out on the play-offs by a single point.
