OXFORD United are looking to organise some friendlies to help players returning from injury and those who have been on the periphery of the squad.

James Golding played the first half as United were knocked out of the EFL Trophy in midweek, while summer signing Max Woltman came on at half-time.

Both players have struggled for game time this season, with the loss at AFC Wimbledon the first match Golding has played for the U’s, although he has had loan spells at Maidenhead United and Dartford this campaign.

Woltman meanwhile, who joined from Liverpool, and was billed as a development project, was making his third appearance for United, all of which have come in the EFL Trophy.

Asked about Woltman and his second half display, U’s head coach Des Buckingham said: “He’s only been back in training for two and a half weeks. He was injured when I arrived and it’s taken some time to get him up and running.

“This was the first real game where we’ve had a chance to get him on and have a look.

“It’s difficult in league games to have a look at players, when we’re obviously looking for points.

“We’re looking to organise a couple of friendly games if we can in the coming weeks, to allow the likes of those players that are coming back, and those that haven’t had game time, to get some minutes into their legs and for me to have a look.”
