Mark Harris ended his four-month goal drought in the league on New Year's Day as he got himself on the scoresheet in United's comeback win at Charlton.

The Welsh forward hadn't scored since his brace at Derby County on August 15 but got the U's level in the first half at The Valley on Monday before a stunner from Oisin Smyth saw United win 2-1.

Harris has netted three times in the EFL Trophy, taking his total in all competitions to seven goals to draw level with Billy Bodin and Cameron Brannagan as United’s top scorers so far this season.

Speaking to iFollow, he said: “It was a relief, it had been a long time coming.
”I’ve had a few chances that I should have put away but finally we got there.

“The players create chances. Fin put that on a plate for me. The pass from Ruben and the cross from Fin, it was a good team goal.

“I was glad to see it go in and I was always confident a goal would come, but all I could do was keep working as hard as ever, that’s a given with me really.

"I give it 100 per cent every game and when it falls for me like it did against Charlton then happy days.

“Now I want to continue that and hopefully go on a little run in front of goal.

“It was a big result, especially going a goal down.

"The start wasn’t as good as we can be but I thought we pinned them back in the second half and it was exactly the performance and result we needed after the Derby game.

"That felt bad to lose that one after being 2-0 up so early and the start we made. But to bounce back straight away was great.”

The 25-year-old will look to add his tally this weekend as U's travel to Championship side Coventry in the FA Cup on Saturday.

He said: "My record isn’t great in the FA Cup - I haven’t been to any finals, let’s put it that way.”

“But I played at Anfield against Liverpool, which wasn’t too bad.

"Coventry is a good game for us though. We are taking a lot of fans, it’s a nice stadium and we see it as a game we can win.

"Coventry are a good team and it will be tough, but we’re not going there thinking we have no chance. We will go there wanting to win and feeling that we can achieve that.

“It’s about going out there, giving our all, and hopefully we can get through.”
