THE hamstring injury suffered by Oxford United winger Tyler Goodrham is not as bad as feared, a scan has revealed.

The 20-year-old tightened up in his hamstring during United’s defeat at home to Derby County on December 29, and was taken off at half-time in that game.

Goodrham then missed out on the matchday squad for the trip to Charlton Athletic on New Year’s Day, as did Jordan Thorniley, who woke up with a back spasm on the morning of the match.

Providing an update on the duo, U’s head coach Des Buckingham said Thorniley is in contention for this afternoon’s trip to Coventry City in the third round of the Emirates FA Cup, while Goodrham should be available for the EFL Trophy round of 16 tie at AFC Wimbledon.

Buckingham said: “Jordan is back for the weekend and has trained. With Tyler, the timeline is hopefully for AFC Wimbledon on Tuesday, so it’s not too bad at all.”

The FA Cup clash with Coventry had been earmarked as a potential return date for full backs Greg Leigh and Sam Long, however United are going to have to wait a little longer on the duo.

Leigh is now expected to return from his calf problem for the Sky Bet League One game at Carlisle United on January 13, with Long due the following weekend at home to Northampton Town.

Buckingham said: “Greg will be Carlisle and the new timeframe on Sam is Northampton.”
