TYLER Goodrham is being sent for a scan to determine the seriousness of his hamstring problem.

The 20-year-old winger tightened up in his hamstring during Oxford United’s defeat at home to Derby County, and was taken off at half-time in that game.

Goodrham then missed out on the matchday squad for United’s trip to Charlton Athletic on New Year’s Day, as did Jordan Thorniley, who woke up with a back spasm on the morning of the match.

U’s head coach Des Buckingham said: “Jordan woke up in the morning with spasm in his back and it just locked up, so he should be fine for the weekend. It’s just a case of that back releasing, it may take two or three days.

“Tyler we’re sending for a scan. We’re struggling to get him a scan because of the Christmas and New Year period, but he goes in for a scan, so we’ll know exactly with him.

“The good news is that Billy Bodin returned off the bench, so it’s about reintegrating him and getting him back match sharp.

“We had Stan Mills on the bench, who could’ve played or come on, and we were planning on before Oisin [Smyth] got the goal, to get him on and give us a bit more attacking threat, but that rest will serve him well with his foot because it’s very black and blue.”

United’s injury list now stands at eight first team players, including Goodrham and Thorniley.

The U’s are next in action on Saturday, with the 12.30pm kick-off at Coventry City in the third round of the Emirates FA Cup.

Full backs Greg Leigh and Sam Long could make their returns from injury at the Ricoh Arena, having both been unavailable to Buckingham since he became head coach on November 16.

Leigh has been nursing a calf injury picked up while on international duty with Jamaica towards the end of November, while Long suffered an ankle injury inside the opening few minutes of United’s 2-0 win at Lincoln City on October 31.

Centre back Stephan Negru and winger Josh Murphy are out for up to three weeks with hamstring and calf injuries respectively.

Wide duo Marcus Browne and Kyle Edwards have been sidelined with hamstring complaints, and will be the last of the players to make their comebacks.

The pair were initially expected back during the new year period, however Buckingham said last week: “Both Kyle and Browney may be a bit longer than we first thought, but I don’t want to give a date until we’ve got that officially from the medical team.”
