OXFORD City ended a run of three consecutive defeats with a Boxing Day win at Dorking Wanderers.

Two counter-attacks proved to be the difference for the Hoops, with Renny Smith netting his first goal for the club with quarter of an hour to go, before Reece Fleet sealed the points five minutes into stoppage time.

A ball over the top for the hosts was wasted by Matt Briggs shortly after 20 minutes had been played, when he blasted over the bar in the Vanarama National League clash.

Jack Bycroft denied Charlie Carter, with the save proving crucial as the Hoops took the lead less than 60 seconds later.

Olly Sanderson burst upfield from the halfway line, and squared for Smith, who took a touch before slotting the ball past goalkeeper Harrison Male.

City doubled their lead when Alfie Potter got on the end of a long ball forward and teed up Fleet to seal the victory.

The win leaves the Hoops 21st in the table and just a point shy of safety ahead of the reverse clash with Dorking on New Year’s Day.

Danny Newton’s goal after just two minutes was enough to see Brackley Town win 1-0 at Banbury United in National League North, while Didcot Town lost 1-0 at home to Hungerford Town in Southern League Premier South.

In Southern League Central Division, North Leigh lost ground on leaders Bedford Town after losing 3-0 at Cirencester Town. Kidlington won 2-1 at home to Thame United.
