DES Buckingham has downplayed the chances of Oxford United bringing in any more free agents, including former winger Tariqe Fosu.

The U’s added experienced left back Joe Bennett last week, to negate the loss of both Greg Leigh and Sam Long, however Buckingham has effectively ruled out delving back into the free agent market.

United supporters have expressed their desire to bring Fosu back on some sort of deal, especially with the injuries to Marcus Browne and Kyle Edwards.

U’s head coach Buckingham though said it’s more likely that the club will wait until the January transfer window before adding any more players to the squad.

“We’ve got a recruitment meeting next week, where we’ll look at what we can do, but it’ll likely be January and nothing before that,” said Buckingham.

“Joe came in because we had a severe lack of full backs, with Greg pulling up before the Cheltenham game.

“We’ve got a meeting next week and we’ll assess what we want, and what we can do, but it’s more likely looking to be the January window rather than before.”

Fosu left Brentford in the summer, after making 63 appearances for the Bees, 39 in helping them to the Premier League.

He played 33 times for United, scoring 10 goals, in a six-month spell with the club, prior to joining Brentford.
