DES Buckingham has addressed the confusion surrounding Fin Stevens’ availability for Oxford United in the Emirates FA Cup.

The Brentford loanee was ‘ineligible’ for the first round clash with Maidenhead United, but started as the U’s beat Grimsby Town in the second round yesterday afternoon.

Asked about the situation, United head coach Buckingham: “We phoned them [Brentford] and asked for some clearance to play him.

“For them to give him clearance to play, we’re very grateful for because they’ve sent him to us, for him to try and play at a good level, and it now allows him to go into the third round of the FA Cup.

“Thank you to them for allowing him to do that, and again, I thought he was very good for us.

“I’d like to think they’ve seen how well he has played while he’s been here, and how well he’s looked after here.

“If he can keep playing and keep performing the way he has, he’ll continue to allow us to have the performances that we are.”
