OXFORD United are set to be without Greg Leigh for their home clash against Sky Bet League One leaders Bolton Wanderers on Tuesday night.

Leigh missed the 2-0 loss at Cheltenham Town after picking up a calf injury while on international duty with Jamaica.

The 29-year-old helped his country pull off a comeback against Canada and secure a place in the Concacaf Nations League finals for the first time.

The Reggae Boyz trailed 2-1 from the first leg of the quarter final clash, however Heimir Hallgrimsson’s side turned the tie round by claiming their first win over Canada on Canadian soil.

However, Leigh returned to the UK on Thursday with a calf knock which puts him at risk of missing the game against the Trotters.

U’s head coach Des Buckingham said: “It was a late change with Greg because he only reported back from the Canada game on Thursday.

“He’s got a calf injury and we’re just waiting to assess the extent of it. He’s very unlikely to be available for Tuesday.”

One positive to come from the Robins defeat was the return of Ipswich Town loanee Kyle Edwards, who has been out with a hamstring complaint since the end of September.

Edwards played the final 25 minutes at Cheltenham after replacing Fin Stevens, with both he and fellow substitute Josh Murphy two of the brighter sparks.

Buckingham said: “Murph came on at the start of the second half, and had an instant impact, and created two or three really good chances in the first five minutes.

“Kyle’s been out for a while, but it was good to get minutes into him. He’s going to be a very important player for us, and if we can build minutes with him now, everyone’s seen the quality he has in this league.”
