CHRIS Hogg was left frustrated after a refereeing performance overshadowed Oxford United’s draw at home to Wycombe Wanderers.

The U’s took the lead in the first half through Ruben Rodrigues, however the visitors edged in front after two Luke Leahy penalties.

United head coach Liam Manning was sent off by referee Sebastian Stockbridge in the aftermath of the second spot kick being awarded, however Cameron Brannagan rescued a point for the U’s deep in stoppage time when he converted a penalty of his own.

Football League rules prevented Manning being available for media duties post-game, with assistant head coach Hogg taking his place.

He said: “It’s quite sad really in terms of at every level now, we’re talking about stuff not on the pitch and the football.

“There’s a lot being said all season from the Premier League down on different rule changes and decisions.

“I just think it impacts the product then for the supporters and players as well really.

“Both sets of players probably feel aggrieved at times. I’d much rather focus on the effort and the attitude from our players.”

The first penalty incident awarded against United saw Marcus McGuane penalised for a handball while he laid stationary in the box.

An almost identical incident against the Chairboys in the first half failed to see a penalty materialise for the U’s though.

Hogg said: “You’re looking for consistency. It’s one of those things where there’ll be more games this weekend where we’ll be talking about key decisions.

“From our point of view, we’ll take learnings from the game and move onto Tuesday.”

On Manning’s red card, Hogg said: “It was one of them moments where the referee deemed it a red card offence in the technical area, but I don’t exactly know what happened.

“You know what the manager’s like. He’s calm and calculated, so whatever was said I’m not sure.”
