Oxfordshire's Greg Moon and Gary Lucas struggled to make an impact as England finished third in the British Isles International Series at Llandrindod Wells.

Moon, who was recalled to the team to lead off, and Lucas at No 3, played in the same rink, with Cornwall's Mark Read, at No 2, and skip Graham Shadwell, from Wiltshire.

In their opening game against Ireland, they went down 20-15 to skip Jeremy Henry after a slow start saw them trail 9-2 following the first five ends.

However, with the five other rinks all winning, England gained a 132-91 victory.

The following day against Wales, the England rink featuring the Banbury Borough duo paid for an even worse start as they slipped to a 21-17 loss against skip Jason Greenslade.

They trailed 10-0 after the first five ends, and although they pulled it back to 11-9 after ten and 15-13 after 15, the leeway was too much to make up.

Wales ran out 124-98 winners, with England triumphing on just one rink.

Moon and Lucas didn't feature in England's final game against Scotland with Huntingdonshire pair Simon Leader and Nicky Brett taking their places in Shadwell's rink, who went down 22-20.

England also lost the match 123-101, with victory giving Scotland the title.

Wales were runners-up, with Ireland fourth.
