Scarborough Athletic beat Oxford City to earn FA Cup first round place

Kieran Weledji and Luca Colville gave Scarborough Athletic a 2-0 lead at the break after a tepid first half showing from City.

However, two goals in quick succession from Tom Harrison and Latrell Humphrey-Ewers in the final 10 minutes brought the Hoops level.

There was though more late drama when Lewis Maloney smashed in a wonder strike during injury time, to ensure the Vanarama National League North outfit will host Sky Bet League Two side Forest Green Rovers on the weekend of November 4.

Ross Jenkins made two changes to the side which drew 2-2 with the Seadogs at the weekend, as Andre Burley and Nya Kirby came in for Reece Fleet and Alfie Potter.

With less than 30 seconds on the clock, the visitors had the first sight of goal when Frank Mulhern drifted an effort wide from 25 yards.

Mulhern again found space for a shot from distance as the game ticked into the 10th minute, however his dipping left-footed effort dropped harmlessly wide of Chris Haigh’s right-hand post.

At the other end, Renny Smith flashed a ball across goal following a rapid Hoops counter-attack, however Olly Sanderson was unable to make any contact.

Colville then flashed a shot narrowly wide from 20 yards, with Haigh scrambling.

The City goalkeeper then made a fantastic save to thwart Dom Tear after a pullback on the byline from Weledji.

The resulting corner was headed over by a Hoops defender for another set piece, from which the Seadogs took the lead midway through the first half.

Despite the best efforts of Haigh, a close range header from Weledji was adjudged to have crossed the line by the match officials.

Colville doubled the Scarborough lead in first half stoppage time when he found the back of the net from the centre of a crowded penalty area.

Jenkins made an alteration at the break as Humphrey-Ewers replaced Kirby in midfield.

The second period followed a similar pattern to the first half, with City unable to carve out any openings.

Just before the hour mark, Lewis Coyle capitalised on a loose ball and made a burst towards goal.

However, the 29-year-old’s left-footed strike from 25 yards sailed harmlessly over Joe Cracknell’s goal.

Jenkins then made his second change when Pierre Fonkeu came on for Coyle.

The switch saw Smith move to Coyle’s left wing back slot, while Fonkeu played close to Sanderson up front.

Former Middlesbrough and West Bromwich Albion midfielder Jonathan Greening then made his first Seadogs change with just over 20 minutes to go, when Maloney replaced Tear.

With 10 minutes to go, Maloney fancied his chances from 30 yards, however his thunderous strike flew comfortably high and wide.

Zac McEachran then saw a shot blocked by a sea of bodies, before two quickfire goals pulled the Hoops level.

The first goal came with seven minutes to go when Harrison smashed home at the back post.

Humphrey-Ewers then dragged City level when he kept his cool to round off a smart move from the left channel of the penalty area.

As the clock ticked towards 90 minutes, the away side were handed a golden opportunity when Maloney’s deep cross from the right was headed wide by a well-placed Mulhern.

It mattered little though as Maloney’s wonderful dipping volley in stoppage time sailed into the roof of the net from 25 yards.

A Smith free kick seven minutes into stoppage time was deflected out for a corner, however it was headed clear and the visitors secured their place in the first round.
