ROSS Jenkins is hopeful of getting the majority of his squad back training today after having just nine available earlier in the week.

Oxford City trained on Tuesday night with eight first team players and a 17-year-old, such is the raft of minor injuries within the Hoops squad.

Jenkins’ side make the eight and a half hour round trip to Scarborough Athletic in the Emirates FA Cup fourth qualifying round on Saturday, with a place in the first round at stake.

“We haven’t trained too heavily. We were quite light and we’ve got to make sure we get through training this week, and hopefully by Saturday, we’re in a decent shape to put out a strong XI to compete against Scarborough because they’ll have a strong team ready for us,” said Jenkins.

“We’ve got some that don’t need to be training because the niggles that they have.”

Jenkins admitted he may be forced to field those in the best shape for the cup clash.

“You always try and put the strongest XI out, that’s a rule of thumb. But I think this game, I think we look at the fittest XI,” he said.

“We look at people who are fully fit and there are no real niggles, but it’s really hard because we’ve got so many.

“Some boys have got to get through it, that’s a fact. We’re a little bit wounded but I think by Saturday, we should be in an okay place.”
