OXFORD City will look to build on their first point of the season when they make the trip to Maidenhead United tomorrow.

The Hoops drew 1-1 at FC Halifax Town last time out, and in the process, got off the mark in Vanarama National League.

Head coach Ross Jenkins has been pleased with how his side have reacted since the 5-2 defeat against Aldershot Town on the opening day of the campaign.

He said: “Our overall performances since the Aldershot game have been pretty good and we said in pre-season that we need to look after our performances like we did last year.

“It’s been quite noticeable standing on the side and I think people in the stands have seen it. We’re moving in the right direction.”

Previewing the Maidenhead clash, Jenkins said: “They’re a team that know the league inside out and a manager that knows the league inside out, with very experienced boys on the pitch.

“They’ve got energy, experience, height, pace and a threat.

“We’ve got to keep making sure we look after our performance. We know our levels and what we’ve been working on in training.

“From what I’ve seen this week in training, the boys are up for it and they’re confident.”

The Hoops face back-to-back games in quick succession, with a home clash against Boreham Wood on bank holiday Monday.

“From a players’ point of view, if you’re on the pitch, you don’t even worry about Monday,” said Jenkins.

“You need to give 100 per cent on the Saturday and run yourself ragged because we do have players who can step in on Monday.

“We have a small squad, but a squad which is fully capable of chipping in.

“We demonstrated that last year and rotated very well in busy periods.

“If the players are cautious and protect themselves, that will show in their performance.”

Banbury United will be aiming to make it three wins on the bounce when they visit Rushall Olympic in National League North.

The Puritans, 14th in the table, then welcome Buxton on Monday.

Didcot Town, third from bottom in Southern League Premier South, host Basingstoke Town tomorrow and then go to Hungerford Town for the bank holiday.

The Railwaymen have suffered four defeats from four since promotion last season.

In Southern League Central Division, Kidlington host Welwyn Garden City, while North Leigh and Thame United travel to Ware and Barton Rovers respectively.

Thame then welcome Kidlington on Monday, with the Millers at home to Cirencester Town.
