OXFORD United youngster Aidan Elliott-Wheeler has rejoined Banbury United on loan.

The 17-year-old winger signs for a minimum one-month loan after making a big impression at the Spencer Stadium last season.

He arrived on March 23 and less than two weeks later, helped the Puritans end an 11-game winless run when his deflected strike sealed three points away at Southport.

After returning to Banbury, he told the club website: “I’m delighted to be back here. Of course, there have been lots of changes since the end of last season but after seeing the side the gaffer has started to build, I’m delighted to be a part of the squad for this year.

“I’m looking forward to seeing what this season holds for us and can’t wait to be back playing in front of the Town End again.”

The Puritans begin their Vanarama National League North campaign at home to Spennymoor Town tomorrow.

Elliott-Wheeler was part of the U’s team which made history last season in reaching the quarter finals of the FA Youth Cup, the furthest the club has ever progressed in the competition.

United bowed out after a 3-0 loss away against Manchester City.

U’s head of academy Stevie Kinniburgh told the club website: “Aidan has a really bright future. He did really well in our FA Youth Cup run last season and went with the first team for their training camp in Spain where he fitted in really well.

“Playing National League North football is going to be the next stage of his development but he has taken everything in his stride so far and we’ll be able to keep a close eye on his progression.”
