BANBURY United have snapped up former Thame United midfielder Jack Tompkins.

The 21-year-old joins from Berkhamsted after a stellar campaign for the Comrades, where he was named their young player of the year.

Tompkins worked with Puritans boss Mark Jones at Barnet’s academy system.

He left the Bees though for Thame in 2021, and won the supporters’ player of the season award after bagging four goals in 34 appearances.

From Thame, Tompkins moved to Berkhamsted for the start of the 2022/23 campaign.

The youngster showed his versatility by moving from midfield to right back, and featured 44 times for the Comrades as they won the Southern League Central Division.

Tompkins scored twice last season and won Berkhamsted’s young player of the year award.

He impressed Jones as a trialist for the Puritans this summer.

Banbury have also secured the services of Simeon Maye for next season.

The 28-year-old midfielder initially joined last season and impressed in the final 12 games, helping the Puritans preserve their Vanarama National League North status.

Maye flourished in the holding midfield role and made it his own as Banbury stayed up by five points in what was their first ever campaign at that high a level.
