BANBURY United will begin a new era on home soil as they welcome Spennymoor Town on the opening day of the season.

Mark Jones took over from Andy Whing, after the latter resigned, last month and will start the Vanarama National League North season against a side which finished ninth last year and outside the play-offs solely on goal difference.

After that August 5 clash, the Puritans then visit Scarborough Athletic and Gloucester City on August 12 and 15 respectively.

Scunthorpe United, a second tier side as recently as the 2010/11 season, make the trip to Spencer Stadium on November 7.

Over the festive period, Jones will take his side to Warrington Town on December 23, before back-to-back fixtures against Brackley Town on Boxing Day (home) and New Year’s Day (away).

The Puritans’ run-in starts with a home clash against Hereford on Good Friday (March 29) and trip to Bishop’s Stortford on Easter Monday (April 1).

A visit to Chorley on April 13 is sandwiched between home clashes against King’s Lynn Town (April 6) and Tamworth (April 20).

Last season, the Puritans began their maiden National League North campaign with a 2-1 win at Curzon Ashton.
