BANBURY United have announced their sixth summer signing with the addition of teenage midfielder Josh Barlow from Shrewsbury Town.

The 19-year-old made four appearances for the Shrews last season, including one in Sky Bet League One.

Barlow was previously at Cheltenham Town, prior to his spell with Salop.

He was named on the bench while still a Shrews scholar towards the end of the 2021/22 campaign, and was handed a professional contract in May 2022.

The former academy captain then started three games in the Papa John’s Trophy last season.

All three ties ended in defeat for the Shrews, losing at home to Wolverhampton Wanderers Under-21s (2-1) and Port Vale (4-0), and away against Stockport County (1-0).

Barlow then made his football league debut in April when he replaced Crystal Palace loanee Rob Street late on during a 1-1 draw at home to Portsmouth.

Puritans manager Mark Jones told the club website: “I am very pleased that Josh has agreed to join us, he’s another young player with bags of potential.

“He likes to get on the ball and play. We believe he’ll fit in very well to the style we want to play.”

Barlow added: “I can’t wait to start playing and to getting stuck in to playing regular competitive men’s football.”

The Puritans announced the signings of Tope Obadeyi and Tai Fleming last week, while Lawson D’Ath and Jack Davies also join goalkeeper Jack Harding at the club next season.
