BANBURY United forward Ben Acquaye has admitted to placing more than 600 bets on football games during an almost four-year period.
Acquaye has been charged with betting misconduct, having breached FA rules.
The 23-year-old has admitted the charge, which relates to 645 bets being placed on matches between September 22, 2018, and April 19, 2022.
The Puritans said in a statement that the charge relates to ‘historic breaches of FA betting rules as part of a wide-ranging investigation across non-league football’.
Club chairman Ronnie Johnson said: “Naturally, we are disappointed with the situation. The bets were historical and none were placed in the 2022/23 season.
“We await details of disciplinary action and the board continues to provide support to Ben in this FA process as we have throughout the investigation.
“I have been with Ben through the interviews in order to assist where possible.
“Banbury United communicates all FA policies to players, including those relating to betting, an issue we take very seriously.”
