OXFORD United are set to miss out on a cash windfall from Rob Dickie’s move to Bristol City, the Oxford Mail understands.

The 27-year-old centre back has joined the Robins from fellow Sky Bet Championship side Queens Park Rangers for an undisclosed fee, reportedly of £1 million.

The U’s negotiated a sell-on fee, believed to be 20 per cent of any profit, when the club sold Dickie to QPR in September 2020.

While the fee United sold Dickie for was also undisclosed, it is understood to eclipse that paid by the Robins, therefore the sell-on fee has not been activated.

Dickie left the U’s after making 113 appearances for the club, scoring three times, and won the supporters’ player of the season award in his final year with the club.

He signed a four-year deal with QPR and went on to play 129 times for the Loftus Road side, also collecting their supporters’ player of the year award in his debut season.

The defender has put pen to paper on a three-year contract, with the option of a further 12 months, at Ashton Gate.

He will officially become a Robins player when the summer transfer window opens on June 14.

Dickie, who will link up with fellow former United centre back Rob Atkinson and midfielder Mark Sykes, told the Robins website: “As soon as Bristol City showed interest, I was keen on the move.

“Having spoken to various people here, the club have shown real ambition for the season ahead.

“I’ve had a brief look at the squad. There is a really good blend of youth as well as experienced players and with the Championship experience I’ve got, I feel as though I can really add to that and bolster the squad.”
