JOSH Ashby has committed his future to Oxford City ahead of the club’s debut Vanarama National League campaign.

The 27-year-old midfielder scored in the National League South play-off final thumping of St Albans City last month.

The Hoops won 4-0 in front of a record crowd of 3,100 at Court Place Farm, with Ashby bagging the third goal of the game.

He said: “I can’t wait to get going for next season. I’m really looking forward to testing myself in a higher division, and as a team, we’re looking forward to that.

“We had a great year last year, but we want to push on and really test ourselves at a higher level.

“We’ll back ourselves against anyone but obviously every game is going to be very tough.

“There are some big teams in the division and some big crowds.

“I’m really looking forward to the away games as much as the home ones as well.

“We’ll give ourselves the best opportunity and give it a right good go.

“We’ve got some experienced boys in there, who have been through the leagues and know what it’s all about.

“I’m just looking forward to pre-season and getting going again.”

The Oxford-born midfielder came through the youth ranks at Oxford United and played seven times for the U’s, including five games in Sky Bet League Two.

He follows City skipper Reece Fleet in committing to next season.
