LIAM Manning hopes Oxford United can learn from the mistakes made this season after rounding off the campaign with a defeat at home to relegated Accrington Stanley.

The U’s were in complete control of the first half but failed to extend their 1-0 lead, paying the price as Stanley fought back to win 2-1.

Manning said: “Ultimately the game should be dead and buried by half-time, we created that many opportunities.

“The attitude, application and intensity – so many of the factors that we were looking for, I was really pleased with.

“If you never put it to bed and don’t finish the final action, you’re always susceptible to the opposition staying in the game.

“It’s extremely disappointing to lose the game and create the number of chances we did.

“The bigger picture is a big thank you from me to the staff, players and fans for really getting behind the team in what’s been a difficult moment.

“We’ve shown that we can stick together in key moments and we have to make sure that we’re at the right end of the table next season.

“We got over the line in terms of staying up and we have to learn from this season.

“It’s such a difficult division and if you don’t get it right, you can find yourself the position that the club has been in.”
