Oxford United Women were knocked off the top of the table after losing 2-1 to Watford.

United travelled to Vicarage Road on Thursday (April 27) evening in a big game at the top of the table as first faced second in a vital clash.

Tash Stephens opened the scoring for the Yellows with a header in the 12th minute.

However, two goals from the home side in the second half saw United lose only their game of the season.

Watford, who were second before the game, leapfrogged the U’s to go top of the FAWNL Southern Premier Division.

With a game in hand, it is still in the United’s hands with two wins from their final two games enough to win the league.

Speaking to Oxford United’s media team, Manager Liam Gilbert said: “It’s a tough one to take because we had moments just as well as they did but it wasn’t out day today and it happens.

“They played a great game, fair play to them, they had nothing to lose and they want for it.”

The U’s face Gillingham in their final home game of the season tomorrow (April 30) at 1:30pm before travelling to Ipswich on May 7 on the final day.
